More About Heidi

Growing up in Michigan, Heidi discovered her passion for riding at the age of 11.  She and her thoroughbred mare, Kodak, competed in the 4’6 and 4’9 jumper classes before discovering dressage.  Soon this discipline became her focus, and continued into her college years while she attended Michigan State University in Lansing.  She was elected Vice President of the Michigan State Equestrian team and received her degree in Animal Science with a pre-vet option and with an equine emphasis.

Following her graduation, Degele moved to Florida to advance her dressage career.  She worked with a number of excellent instructors, including Patrick Burssens, Jan Brons, Steffen Peters, and Juan Matute.  In 2004 she was accepted into the training program of Olympic Gold Medalist, Hubertus Schmidt and moved to Germany with her stallion, Ramiros.  While there, she purchased Everybody’s Darling, a mare that she trained to Grand Prix with the help of Schmidt.  She competed extensively in Germany, with scores over 70%, and her students in Germany also found much success in competition.

In 2008 Degele moved back to Florida and continues to exercise the knowledge and philosophies learned from Schmidt.  She currently has many clients who show, train and compete out of her Mesa Farms, and has sold countless dressage horses to both amateur riders and professionals.  She also utilizes her German and European contacts to find exceptional horses for interested clients.  She has a keen eye for selecting a horse with top movement, temperament, and rideability. Degele is currently campaigning a number of horses on the 2013 Florida show season and offers a number of dressage prospects for sale.
